We are hosting a two-part workshop/exploration centered on shaping and firing micaceous clay. Once fired, these pots can be used for decor, planting, or food/drink.
Micaceous clay has small flecks of mica in it, which creates a very fun sparkly effect.
Day 1: Saturday, July 22 2pm-5pm
Day 2: Friday, July 28 11am-4pm
Day One: We will be working with the clay and shaping pinch pots or whatever else your creative hands and minds come up with, discussing the properties and some of the history of low fire micaceous clay, and having fun together.
Day Two: After our creations have had a chance to fully dry, we will be pit-firing them! This is a method of firing pottery that does not require a kiln, but it takes time and attention, and there are many uncertainties in the process - so manage expectations accordingly ;-)
Note: Even if you can only attend one day, you are welcome to participate! If you attend Day One, we can fire your pot for you, and if you can only attend Day Two, you won't have a pot but you will be able to learn a lot about the process.
We are NOT experts in this - we have participated multiple times at other gatherings, but have not tried it ourselves yet. We are looking forward to the hands-on, learn-as-we-go aspect of this and would be so happy to have you join us.
Because we have some limits on parking space and materials, we are asking people to RSVP so that we can plan well and make sure we don’t exceed capacity.
RSVP HERE.
There is no charge for attending this workshop, but if you are able to donate a small amount for materials that would be helpful. Suggested donation $5/lb. of clay (we’ll have a little basket on site for this purpose). We won’t be keeping track and do not want cost to be a barrier for anyone!
